Any current faculty, staff or student who has a UCF identification card and also has a disability that makes retrieving and photocopying materials difficult or impossible is eligible for service from this pilot program. For details, go to http://library.ucf.edu/ILL/Services4StudentsWDisab.asp
If a sensory or physical disability prevents you from retrieving materials, you may request assistance from the Circulation Desk. By appointment, a staff member will be assigned, and can usually be expected to retrieve about 20 items from shelves, or spend up to 30 minutes with a patron.
When possible, reference librarians may give individual service based on discussion of the particular needs of a research project and may retrieve some reference materials. However, they can not include in-depth assistance such as reading or interpreting of tables of contents to patrons.
Computer workstations are available on each floor.
The UCF Library has several reading and listening aid devices.
To get the most benefit from this equipment, individuals must be trained. The training may be arranged by contacting UCF Student Disability Services, Student Resource Center, Room 132, (phone: 407-823-2371, TTY/TDD only 407-823-2116).
This equipment is useful for persons with print related impairments who wish to conduct independent research using the library's electronic resources.
According to the Student Disability Services Handbook, "UCF is not responsible for providing personal assistants, individually prescribed devices or services of a personal nature." Therefore, you need to bring an assistant with you when doing your research.
All campus computer labs provide a computer with JAWS and ZoomText software. To use this equipment, please ask the consultant on duty for assistance. Computer Services Instruction and Research Support, CC1 Room 104, (phone 407-823-2713) has a computer terminal with a large print and/or a voice synthesizer.
Individuals with disabilities who need more assistance to access library materials may contact UCF Student Disability Services, Student Resource Center, Room 132, ( phone: 407-823-2371, TTY/TDD only 407-823-2116). The computers in this office have the following software: Dragon Dictate (voice recognition), JAWS (screen reader), ZoomText (text enlarger), and a Braille Writer.
