Online Florida History Resources:
Central Florida Memory
is a cooperative project begun in 2002 by three institutions: The University of
Central Florida Libraries, The Orange County Regional History Center, and The
Orange County Library System. The long-term intent of the project is to provide
an online platform and focal point for gathering, preserving, and disseminating
the documents, artifacts, and stories of the history of Central Florida.
Digitized materials include postcards, maps, 1927 Orlando City Code, Orlando
city directories (1887, 1907, and 1909), and the Social Registers for 1925 and
1937.
Florida Heritage Collection is
an ongoing cooperative project of the State University System (SUS) of Florida to digitize
and provide online access to materials broadly representing Floridas history,
culture, arts, literature, sciences and social sciences. Thematic areas in this growing
collection include Native American and minority populations, exploration and development,
tourism, the natural environment, and regional interests. See also Publication of

& Citation Index contains references to biographical
information on notable Floridians in the books, periodicals, vertical files,
newspapers and maps of the State Library's Florida Collection. Some of the
resources indexed are rare, but many are current periodicals that might be
found in the UCF Library or other local libraries. The records in this index
are a subset of the State Library of Florida's library catalog and are
searched through the main catalog at
http://library.florida.gov . To search for just the Florida
Biography/Citation Index citations, click on the "Power Search" option (under
the search box), and then on the search form, choose Florida Biography &
Citation Index from the "Location" dropdown box. On the results of your
search, you will see a list of the records with a call number in the format
FLCITE(374332.1). Click on the "Details" button to see the record. On the
detailed record click on the "Catalog Record" tab to see the list of citations
for that record.

Florida, 1936-1940 describe the informant's family education, income,
occupation, political views, religion and mores, medical needs, diet and miscellaneous
observations.
- Florida Folklife
from the WPA Collections, 1937-1942 is a multiformat ethnographic field
collection documenting African-American, Arabic, Bahamian, British-American, Cuban, Greek,
Italian, Minorcan, Seminole, and Slavic cultures throughout Florida.

Heritage Digital Collection (Univ of Miami)
Sanborn Fire Insurance Company
Maps of Florida comprise an online collection of more than 300 bibliographic
units in more than 3,000 map sheets dating from 1860 through 1923. Digitized
maps are in the public domain and illustrate the development of more than 130
Florida cities. The UCF Library has the maps for Florida cities & towns
from 1884 through the 1950s on microfilm (3rd floor) [MFLM G 3931 .G475 S3
1983].
Orange County Regional
History Center (Orlando) includes the Central Florida Historical
Society Photo Archives, with more than 12,000 photographs dealing with various
aspects of Orange County history. They range in date from approximately
the 1870's to the present, and they depict people, buildings, businesses,
streets, hotels, banks, churches, historic homes, cities, railroads, lakes,
springs, fairs, military, sports, etc.
